INTRODUCTION
The development of science, technology, the arts, business, and industry has always been dependent on our ability to communicate information, whether via transmission of bits stored on a microchip or through voice conversation .Humans are fortunate to have developed a highly complex visual system .The adage "one picture is worth 10,000 words" is certainly as valid today as it was 100 years ago .It is thus not surprising that almost as soon as the digital computer appeared, researchers attempted to use it to produce images on the screen of a cathode-ray tube .Over the 40 years during which electronic digital computers have evolved, our ability to produce computer-generated images has increased to the point that now even the most basic of computers have some graphics capabilities .
The use of computer graphics pervades many diverse fields .Applications range from the production of charts and graphs, to the generation of realistic images for television and motion pictures to the interactive design of mechanical parts .To encompass all these uses, we can adopt a simple definition:
Computer graphics is concerned with all aspects of using a computer to generate images .
Under this definition, computer graphics includes the design of hardware such as displays, the algorithms that are necessary to generate lines on these displays,the software that is used by both the graphics-system programmer and the application programmer, and the applications of computer-generated images .
We can take many approaches to the study of computer graphics,ranging from examining graphics hardware to studying only the use of computer graphics in a specific area, such as very-large-scale-integrated circuit(VLSI)design .Our approach will be to look at the field from the perspective of the application programmer .As better and better hardware and software have become available, the study of computer graphics has become as important to the user of computer graphics as it is to the designer of the graphics system .The modern graphics workstation allows the user to design her own applications using sophisticated graphics systems, rather than thaving to call on a software wizard . Conversely, the same approach is often valuable to the hardware designer and systems programmer, as they must implement functions that arise from the demands of the application .
APPLICATIONS OF COMPUTER GRAPHICS
We can classify applications of computer graphics into four main areas:
. Display of information
. Design
. Simulation
. User interfaces
